Travel advisory issued for South Peace Highways

DAWSON CREEK, BC – The Department of Transportation has issued travel advisories for all highways in South Peace due to heavy rain.

BC Peace is currently under a rain warning and parts of Peace are expected to receive up to 80mm of rain before Saturday evening.

A travel advisory has been issued for Highway 97 and Highway 97S from Taylor to Chetwynd, then from Chetwynd to Pine Pass. The advisory was also issued for highways 2, 49, 52N, 52E and 29.

There are multiple reports of water accumulation on all the above highways due to heavy rain.

A flood watch for rivers in the Peace region, including tributaries around Fort St. John, Taylor, Chetwynd, Moberly Lake, Pine Pass, Hudson’s Hope and Dawson Creek remains in place.

Most areas will receive 30-50mm of rain, while areas near the Rocky Mountains are expecting higher precipitation amounts in the range of 60-80mm. The rain, at times heavy, will turn into a few showers this evening.
