The Eleventh Episode of Merck Foundation’s “Our Africa by Merck Foundation” TV Program Raises Awareness of Supporting Girls’ Education on GH One TV, KTN, NTV and LNTV

Merck Foundation (www.Merck-Foundation.com)the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany has released the eleventh episode of its television program “Our Africa by Merck Foundation” at 2 p.m. on Sunday 24e July 2022 on GH One TV, Ghana, rebroadcast Monday the 25the July at 1:30 p.m. The rest of the 15 episodes will air on GH One TV Ghana every Sunday at 2 p.m. and repeat every Monday at 1:30 p.m.

The TV program is also broadcast on KTN, Kenya and NTV, Uganda, LNTV, Liberia, and also posted on all social media channels of Merck Foundation and KTN, NTV, GH One TV and LNTV.

The eleventh episode of “Our Africa by Merck Foundation” raises awareness on a very important issue of “Support girls’ education”. The episode talks about the importance of enabling access to education for girls and how lack of education is the cause of many of the underlying challenges girls face. The show’s latest episodes have addressed the importance of early detection and prevention of diabetes, removing the stigma around infertility, ending child marriage, promoting a healthy lifestyle Healthy, Ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Coronavirus Health Awareness, Stopping Gender Based Violence, Women Empowerment and Sustainability and Recycled Fashion respectively. Viewers and social media followers across Africa and beyond have shared an outstanding response to the TV program and the issues highlighted in each episode.

‘Our Africa by Merck Foundation’ is a Pan-African TV program This is conceptualized, produced, directed and co-hosted by Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation showcase African fashion designers, singers and prominent experts from various fields with the aim of raising awareness and creating a culture change across Africa. The show is co-hosted by Brian Mulondo from Uganda.

The eleventh episode features eminent personalities like Mrs. Nontando Mposo, editor-in-chief of Glamor magazine South Africa, and popular Singer Blaze of mozambique. fashion designers Alberto from Mozambique and Anuja Bharti from Ghanawho is also a winner of the Merck Foundation Fashion Awards 2020, showcased her designs which displayed strong messages about “Yes to girls’ education” and “Girls, not brides”.

“I strongly believe in girls’ education. When girls are educated, their countries become more powerful, stronger and more prosperous. I realize there is a need for more support as there are many bright girls struggling financially and socially to meet their educational needs. Therefore, we have launched “Educating Linda”, a pan-African program tailored to each country to contribute to the future of these girls under Merck Foundation’s More Than a Mother campaign,” explained Senator Kelej.

Through the “Educating Linda” program, Merck Foundation supports the education of some of the unprivileged but bright girls by providing scholarships and grants that can cover school fees, school uniforms and other essentials including notebooks , pens and math instruments, so they can reach their potential and pursue their dreams.

Apart from the “Educating Linda” program, Merck Foundation also announced the MARS Awards to appreciate and recognize “Top African Women Researchers” and “Best Young African Researcher”. The aim is to empower African women and young researchers, advance their research capacity and promote their contribution to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej further highlighted, “In partnership with the First Ladies of Africa, we have built healthcare capacity by providing training to healthcare providers in many medical specialties. Of the total 1334 fellowships, more than 590 fellowships were awarded to female physicians in critical and underserved specialties. This is a great achievement for us”.

Moreover, Merck Foundation has published many inspiring children’s storybooks and songs to support girls’ education.
