SACRAMENTO, July 20, 2022 – The Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is announcing three vacancies on the Technical Advisory Subcommittee (TASC ) of the Fertilizer Inspection Advisory Board (FIAB). This sub-committee serves as a group of scientific experts on issues concerning the efficient use of fertilizers and irrigation water. TASC members help set research priorities for the FREP grant program, review and recommend research and outreach proposals to IIFB for funding, and advise on FREP activities.

FREP is funded by an assessment of factories on the sale of fertilizer materials and sponsors and facilitates research to improve the appropriate use of fertilizer materials in agriculture. The program is aimed at producers, agricultural supply and service professionals, extension staff, government agencies, consultants and the public.

The TASC vacancies are for two member positions and one member position who is also a member of FIAB. Applicants must demonstrate technical, applied, and scientific expertise in the areas of agronomy, soil science, plant science, production agriculture, and environmental issues related to inefficient fertilizer use in California.

The term of office for members of the sub-committee is three years. Members receive no compensation but are entitled to payment of necessary travel expenses.
